Brighton and Hove-based freelancers have the opportunity to attend free events aimed at helping small businesses survive the economic downturn.
The Business Lifebelt events have been developed in partnership with Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce and Business Link Sussex to provide relevant advice to businesses operating in the area.
As part of the events, a city business clinic will be run monthly, offering business owners personalised one-to-one sessions with specialist business advisors, including advice on financial management and marketing.
Sector workshops targeting the creative industries will take place up until July. The workshops, which will be delivered by industry experts and will feature local business case studies, are designed to help business owners stay motivated and make a profit.
A “Meet the Professionals” drop-in event will be held later this month, offering freelancers and contractors on-the-spot advice from industry professionals.
The professionals will be available to give advice on topics including finance and cash flow, cost-effective marketing and promotion techniques, selling the right product to the right audience, legal issues, staff and resource management, and business planning.
Business Lifebelt will also have a stall at the Brighton & Hove Business Show on May 13, offering free advice and support. Freelancers can also take advantage of consultations with business advisors and attend seminars.
Brighton & Hove cabinet councillor for enterprise Ted Kemble said the events aimed to help small business owners get through the difficult times ahead.
“We’ve teamed up with the Chamber to provide smaller companies with the skills to give them the best possible chance,” he said.
“We’re gathering some very experienced people to pass on their knowledge, so I’d urge any business to take advantage of the offer.”
