Dropbox have done it again!

Dropbox logo Dropbox have done it again!I’ve long advocated Dropbox as the absolute best file-sharing tool for Freelancers, Contractors and just about anyone who needs to backup their important work files and share content across multiple machines or locations. But the best of the best has just added a killer new feature.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…

This week the Dropbox team announced via their forums that they’re adding a ‘Share any file’ option, allowing you to link directly to anything in your Dropbox. Now you can email, tweet or blog any file without mucking about with FTP or file-sharing sites.

And if you now no longer need to ask your clients to get a Dropbox themselves, if you want to quickly share a file with them you can just save it in your DropBox, right-click and select ‘Get Sharable Link.’:

USE CASE

I want to show the latest Go Freelance Guide to a designer working on the next edition:

  1. Save the PDF in my Dropbox.
  2. Right-click the and select ‘Get Shareable Link’.
  3. Dropbox takes me to a page where I can copy the link.
  4. I can then paste the link into an email, blogpost or tweet.
  5. And that’s it… here is the link http://db.tt/fBDza1 – as you can see it provides a great preview of the file.

Pro Tips

  • You can link to files, or folders.
  • If your client already has a Dropbox you can still send a direct link to the file and they can click ‘Copy to my Dropbox’ to grab the file directly.
  • You can find out more about sharing on the Dropbox Forums: New Sharing Model (omg)! « Dropbox Forums.
