
You may have the right to take Paternity Leave or Parental Leave:
Paternity Leave and Pay
You have a right to take
paternity leave and pay if you are an
employee and have worked continuously for your employer for 26 weeks; and if you are a
worker you may qualify for
paternity pay –
- Paternity Leave – You can take up to two consecutive weeks off,
- If you are entitled to Statutory Paternity Pay you will be paid for these 2 weeks – however, your employer may offer more generous pay in your contract.
- In certain circumstances, from 3rd April 2011, you may also be eligible for up to 26 weeks Additional Paternity Leave and Pay.

Parental Leave
You may also be eligible for
Parental Leave – which is available to
employees who have 1 year’s continuous service with their employer and expect to have parental responsibility for the child. Parental leave is a total of 13 weeks per child, which has to be taken by the child’s 5th Birthday. Parental leave is unpaid.
