Good point Caleb.

For freelancers often a key legal document is your employment contract with your customer. Search for the article on this site that talks about the importance and these contracts and how this legal part comes free with a Professional Contractors Group membership.

Some words of wisdom from my attorney and business law courses I have taken well obtaining my Marketing degree. Make sure your contracts have the jurisdiction defined, especially if you do work for companies in other states. Otherwise if you had problems with an out of state client you could end of having to travel to them to clear things up.. not fun! Also a provision in your proposals that links that document to your terms of service so agreeing to the proposal also agrees to the terms of service.
