Copywriter Leif Kendall gives away his secret for happy and successful freelancing: coworking. If you haven’t tried coworking, you’re missing out on a wealth of potential. As a freelancer it’s an ideal way to get out of the house and be in an office, without all the extra baggage that comes with office life. Leif explains why co-working works for him…
What is coworking?
Coworking is like renting an office, but loads better.
Originally conceived by freelancers wanting somewhere to work that was more professional than coffee shops, coworking demands less commitment and cost than traditional office space.
The enticing facts
If you’re lucky enough to have a coworking space near you, then you’ll probably get:
- Low-cost space to work
- Low-commitment (no scary contract)
- People to work with (co-workers)
The exciting reality
Coworking is so much better than just having a lame-o office with big fat rent and a complicated, destined-to-screw-you-over contract.
So what’s the big deal? It’s PEOPLE! Coworking spaces are great at pushing people together, at drawing people out of stagnant offices or lonely cafes and giving them a space to talk to each other, work together and procrastinate together.
Working without coworking
Coworking has been BIG for me. Being a
freelance copywriter in Brighton is great because I can choose from the
Werks,
West Werks,
The Skiff and
Chapel Studios. These spaces have introduced me to hundreds of great people. I’m eternally grateful to all of the industrious folk who turn their offices into coworking space.
If you are a freelancer who hasn’t tried coworking, I urge you to try it. You are missing out on an infinite web of connections, possibilities and friends.
