Before going out on my own, I used to work for a large company here in the US. We used to have meetings just to meet. Our boss would get up in front of us before the meeting and tell us that we haven't met in a few weeks and he just wanted to get together. Times are tough because of the bad economy but I will never go back to working for a large company. If it ever gets to the point where I need to go back to working for a company, it will be a small consulting company of some sort.

Oh yes. This is one of the reasons I went freelance. To be working and creating as much as possible. I do a lot of work at creative agencies and they tend to use my time wisely. It's not a perfect world though - I'm not sure you can get away from bureaucracy completely by freelancing.
