Another titbit we’ve found in the 2013 Budget document, Section 2.42, entitled National Insurance administration for the self-employed. This entry is a short one, and simply reads:

The Government will consult on options to simplify the administrative process for the self-employed by using Self Assessment to collect Class 2 NICs alongside income tax and Class 4 NICs.

Obviously at this phase the Government is only promising to think about change, so it’s pointless to speculate on when this change might be implemented – however in a Budget almost completely devoid of help for freelancers and contractors it’s nice to know the Government is at least acknowledging that we exist.
