Chancellor George Osbourne’s Spending Review marks the UK’s biggest spending cuts since World War II.

The cuts are set to change the country’s economic and social landscape, and freelancer’s trade body PCG has given their reaction…

Despite many freelancers and contractors engaged by the public sector being affected by the cuts, PCG’s managing director John Brazier is still confident that the future remains bright for the UK’s flexi-workforce.

“Despite these economically challenging times having this flexible and skilled workforce available will allow the public sector to call on a range of skills and resources when and where they need them,” he says.

“Freelancer flexibility on tap must be beneficial to all concerned. It can help local and central government control costs while providing the best service possible.”

It will take a little while for the dust to settle and for the specifics of the Spending Review to be picked through, but it’s fair to assume that the need to negate high fixed costs will see freelancers and contractors in a relatively healthy position.
