As you probably know, we’re throwing a big party in Brighton tonight to celebrate National Freelancers Day. If you didn’t know, you do now (and what have you been doing with yourself? Pay attention, for gods sake!).

This may take you by surprise a bit, given the massive popularity of smartphones amongst today’s savvy professionals. New research has found that smartphones are valued less by freelancers and contractors than social networks, online organisational tools such as Dropbox, and even coffee.
Hooray! As you have hopefully realised by now, today (November 23rd) is National Freelancers Day! The event, dreamt up and orchestrated by the Professional Contractors Group, is now in its third year. In 2009 the focus was “the future of work”, and in 2010 “freeing up potential” was the theme. This year the main event, The Freelance Lecture, being held at St. Lukes on Old Street in London on the topic “Flexibility, capability, agility, compatibility”.
Prime Minister David Cameron has once again praised the UK’s freelancers on the eve of National Freelancers Day 2011. In the latest issue of Freelance Matters, the industry magazine from the PCG, the Prime Minister reflected on the impact on the freelance sector.
National Freelancers Day is drawing near. We’re preparing by baking cakes in the shapes of our favourite freelancers, recording mixtapes of the best songs to freelance to and ritualistically burning effigies of our least favourite clients.
It’s no secret we love a good party. In fact, the only thing we love more than a good party is throwing a good party. Luckily for all those based in or around Brighton, we’re doing just that!
It is less than 8 weeks to go until National Freelancers Day, which takes place for the third year running on the 23rd November 2011, and if the promoters of the event are to be believed it is set to be the best one yet!
Now that National Freelancers Day has come and gone, and the dust has settled, we thought we’d provide a roundup of all the action from the day, in case any of you missed something. The day was a rousing success, we had a letter from the Prime Minister, the PCG held a packed lecture in London, and Freelance Advisor set a new traffic record!
A quick PSA for all freelancers, contractors and small businesses out there in the market for a new accountant – our friends at Crunch.co.uk are having a moment of weakness and getting into the spirit of National Freelancers Day by waiving all their set-up and Limited Company formation fees for the rest of the month.
Ok, so that second part might not be scientific fact (yet), but the first part is 100% true. The PCG have released the results of the poll they commissioned for National Freelancers Day (which is today – November 23rd – hooray!). The results make pretty pleasing reading for freelancers.
As you may have heard, today is National Freelancers Day – the day we celebrate freelancing in all its forms right across the country. Whether you’re an engineer from Edinburgh, a consultant from Cardiff or a locum from London – today is for you!

Are you a freelance mastermind? Freelance Advisor is teaming up with online accountants Crunch to host a special event in the run-up to National Freelancer’s Day which aims to wrack the brains of the freelance community.
The Freelance Mastermind Group gives freelancers the opportunity to exchange ideas and share knowledge in a rather nice bar in lovely Brighton.
PCG, the voice of freelancing, is pleased to announce that booking has officially opened for PCG’s inaugural Freelance Lecture taking place at the magnificent Stationer’s Hall to mark National Freelancers Day 2010 — an event supported by Telegraph Media Group.
‘Freeing up Potential’ will provide a theme for the lecture, which will be delivered by Dr James Bellini, leading futurologist, broadcaster and, of course, freelancer.
National Freelancers Day may still be a few months away, but this year’s event already looks set to reflect the growing recognition of flexible-working as an increasingly important part of the UK’s economy.
Last year’s event was the first of its kind and was successful in further promoting the virtues of freelance working. But the PCG has already got some heavyweight backing for the event when it returns on November 23…

Monday marked the first ever National Freelancers Day with a series of events hosted by the Professional Contractors Group (PCG) up and down the country.
